Janus

Janus is a dual video installation that explores the role of ritual in human life both past and present. Two videos viewed simultaneously show a figure referencing the Roman God Janus characterised by his symbolic two faces. Janus is the God of beginnings, doorways, transitions, time, duality and endings. One Video portrays Janus carrying out a ritualistic ceremony including the burning of keys in a fire ,symbols connected to his history. In the other video, we see Janus carrying out everyday secular activities in a neutral western space.
